What is your confidentiality policy?

The ability to build and establish trust with clients begins with knowing your therapist’s policy of confidentiality. This is a founding component of my approach. I’m aware of the vulnerability and courage in seeking out support. I’m committed to creating a supportive and safe environment for my clients.

I follow the strict guidelines from the BC College of Social Workers and the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors protecting the rights and privacy of the client. All records and information shared with me are strictly confidential.

The only exceptions to confidentiality include:

• When disclosure is required to prevent imminent danger to the client or others

• When a child is in need of protection

• When legal requirements demand that confidential materials be submitted

In addition, I’m aware of the concerns or barriers that could come up for one's anonymity by living in a small community.  Outside of the counselling session I will not acknowledge you in the community unless you acknowledge me.

What can I expect from the first session?

I will guide you through gentle exploration in the form of questions and supportive listening to give room to address the concerns that have brought you to counselling. In the beginning of the collaborative experience I will help to explore your hopes, expectations and possible goals. The session is fifty minutes in duration, however there are times when one may feel they need more time and this can be arranged prior to the scheduled appointment.

Do you work with both the family and the youth?

The services are tailored to support the needs of the client. This includes how much involvement the caregiver(s) will have in the session. As well this can be a fluid process where there are times the caregiver(s) are more involved than others.
